Almost forty years later

In the category of Getting Capone On Tax Stuff, it appears that what may finally end Russ McKamey and McKamey Manor is the lack of sprinklers and exit signs in his hokey barn. See about 27 minutes in:

The Tennessee Attorney General has announced an investigation into McKamey Manor, apparently focusing not on the possible code violations, but instead on the illusory nature of the $20K reward, etc. But YouTuber Reckless Ben claims in the video above to have gotten it moving by providing evidence that McKamey was still using the barn without the sprinklers and exit signs required in a 2019 inspection. It all comes back to the Haunted Castle tragedy nearly 40 years ago (see Chapter 13 under Resources), which revealed the inadequacy of extant codes for things like haunts and resulted in significant updates for buildings that were designed to confuse/disorient patrons.
